What's included?

This unique weekend workshop is designed by and for horror fans. Over the course of the weekend you’ll work with tutor and filmmaker Tom Ziebell to plan, shoot and edit a horror film. All props, costumes and equipment are provided.

In this course you’ll learn how to storyboard, shoot and edit a horror film before showing the completed film in our very own cinema. Our course tutor will also share his insights into what goes into making the horror films you love, as well as practical tips that might help you in any future creative endeavours. Most of all, it’s fun and you’ll leave with a film you can share with friends and family.

Day One

10:00 Introductions, History, Theory - From Nosferatu to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Halloween to Hellraiser, we’ll look at examples of great horror cinema and how the genre has evolved on screen before learning some fundamental filmmaking skills.

12:30 – Lunch - 45 Minute Lunch break

13:15 – Pre-Production - Writing, Casting, Crewing Shotlists, Storyboards

14:30 – Production - The shoot commences

  • This workshop is held at our central London venue on Shelton Street, just a 2 minute walk from Covent Garden Station.

Tom’s journey into filmmaking was anything but conventional. With a lifelong passion for cinema, he’s explored every facet of the industry, from acting and stunt work to directing and cinematography.

After honing his skills as an actor and fight performer at drama school, Tom’s love of photography led him into the world of filmmaking. He quickly transitioned from camera operator to cinematographer, earning accolades for his work on experimental horror shorts.

Today, Tom is a versatile filmmaker with a diverse portfolio. He’s collaborating with acclaimed horror director Matthias Von Braun on a feature film and creating engaging online content for brands like Virgin Cruises and Moschin. He also shares his expertise as a filmmaking instructor at the BFI.
