What's included?
You’ll learn how to storyboard, prep, shoot and edit a sci-fi film in Tom’s knowledgeable hands and you’ll be able to see the completed film in our basement screening room. In addition, you’ll hopefully leave with a bunch of insights into what goes into making films in a genre you love, you’ll have lots of practical tips that might help you in any film/content/writing or creative future endeavour, you will have a lot of fun and, you will have a film you’ll be able to share and show family and friends.

10:30 – Introductions, History, Theory - From Metropolis to Blade Runner, 2001: A Space Odyssey to Star Wars, we’ll look at examples of great science fiction cinema and how the genre evolved on screen before learning some fundamental filmmaking skills and some exciting yet simple VFX techniques.
12:30 – Lunch - 45 Minute Lunch break
13:15 – Pre-Production - Writing, Casting, Crewing Shotlists, Storyboards
14:30 – Production - The shoot commences

This weekend workshop is designed for all science fiction fans and aspiring filmmakers. Suitable for beginners and enthusiasts alike.
Just bring a notebook and plenty of ideas for your sci-fi film. Props, costumes, and equipment will be provided.

Actor, CinematographerTom’s journey into filmmaking was anything but conventional. With a lifelong passion for cinema, he’s explored every facet of the industry, from acting and stunt work to directing and cinematography.
After honing his skills as an actor and fight performer at drama school, Tom’s love of photography led him into the world of filmmaking. He quickly transitioned from camera operator to cinematographer, earning accolades for his work on experimental horror shorts.
Today, Tom is a versatile filmmaker with a diverse portfolio. He’s collaborating with acclaimed horror director Matthias Von Braun on a feature film and creating engaging online content for brands like Virgin Cruises and Moschin. He also shares his expertise as a filmmaking instructor at the BFI.
