AI in Film: From Hype to Practice
Artificial Intelligence is already transforming how we make films. At the London Film School, we take a clear and practical position:
AI is not a replacement for filmmakers. It is a tool in the hands of storytellers.
Our approach is grounded in craft. We focus on how these tools can support creative thinking, accelerate workflows and expand what filmmakers can achieve, while keeping storytelling at the centre.
A Proven Training Offer
Last year we ran a series of successful AI courses in partnership with Virtual Storylab. We had fantastic feedback from our students and many requests for more courses.
From September 2026 we are launching our new comprehensive suite of AI courses. These are designed for AI filmmakers of all abilities and cover many different aspects of filmmaking, from world building to sound design, from script editing to AI ethics. Together, London Film School and Virtual Story Lab combine:
- Deep storytelling expertise
- Cutting-edge AI workflows
- A shared commitment to responsible, creative practice

FAQs
For beginners to both AI and AI filmmaking we recommend taking the AI Filmmaking Fundamentals course.
AI Filmmaking Next Steps is aimed at filmmakers who understand the basics of both AI and filmmaking and want to apply AI in a more structured, production-focused way.
Finally, our AI Filmmaking Mastery course is suited for those who have experience using AI tools to turn visual ideas into reference images and keyframes and have a good grasp of the ethics of AI filmmaking.
We would ideally like you to bring a laptop (although spares are available) to work on the course. Most AI tools used during the course will be accessed through a browser rather than installed directly onto participant’s laptops.
There may be some recommended applications for editing or organising assets, but we will confirm these in advance in the participation handout. We aim to use tools that are available on both Mac and Windows.
