The course combines practical, hands-on creation with thoughtful engagement in the ethical and legal considerations increasingly shaping the industry, including issues of copyright, intellectual property protection, voice and likeness rights, consent, and transparency. Designed to be both creatively stimulating and professionally rigorous, the programme offers a forward-looking environment in which filmmakers can experiment with emerging technologies while remaining grounded in responsible and sustainable practice.

What's included?

Participants in this short course will learn how to develop a practical AI-assisted filmmaking workflow, taking a project from initial idea through to a finished short film. Beginning with concept development, they will explore how to shape a manageable story, define tone and treatment, and plan a production that is achievable within a limited timeframe. Alongside creative planning, the course introduces the fundamentals of production thinking in AI filmmaking, including visual planning, shot scope, generation costs, and key ethical and legal considerations such as copyright, intellectual property, likeness, consent, and transparency.

As the course progresses, participants will learn how to design characters, story worlds, and visual styles that remain coherent across a film. They will experiment with generating visual materials, refining references, and developing storyboard-style frames that evolve into production keyframes and shot plans. Through this process, they will gain practical insight into how camera framing, perspective, and sequencing translate into an effective shot list, helping them understand how creative decisions influence both storytelling and the technical effort involved in generating images and motion.

In the later stages of the course, participants will explore how to turn visual materials into moving images, incorporating sound, dialogue, and voice into their projects while considering the creative and ethical implications of synthetic audio tools. The course concludes with the process of editing and finishing a short film, including shaping pacing, assembling sound, adding titles, and preparing a final export for screening. By the end of the programme, participants will have produced a completed short film and gained a clear understanding of how emerging AI tools can be integrated into a responsible and professional filmmaking process. The participants would be split into groups of 3 and each team would be tasked with making an AI Film.
