What's included?
The course combines AI filmmaking practice with thoughtful engagement with the ethical and legal considerations around the use of AI, including issues of copyright, intellectual property protection, voice and likeness rights, consent, and transparency.
Designed to be both creatively stimulating and professionally rigorous, the programme offers a forward-looking environment in which filmmakers can experiment with emerging technologies while remaining grounded in responsible and sustainable practice. For the duration of the week the participants will be working in groups on a practical filmmaking outcome.
Through this process you will learn how to:
- Design a practical AI-assisted filmmaking workflow, taking a project from initial idea through to a finished short film
- Develop a film concept, structure story and define tone with the help of AI
- Create characters, story worlds, and visual styles that remain consistent across your film
- Implement key AI filmmaking workflows, such as visual planning, shot scope and generation costs
- Gain practical insight into how camera framing, perspective, and sequencing translate into an effective shot list
- Experiment with generating visual materials, refining references, and developing storyboard-style frames, production keyframes and shot plans
- Explore how to turn visual materials into moving images, incorporating sound, dialogue, and voice
- Edit and finish a short film, including shaping pacing, assembling sound, adding titles, and preparing a final export for screening
- Consider essential ethical and legal concerns such as copyright, intellectual property, likeness, consent, and transparency
By the end of the programme, participants will have produced a completed short film and gained a clear understanding of how emerging AI tools can be integrated into a responsible and professional filmmaking process.

FAQs
Should I come with any prior experience with specific software, applications or platforms in order to make the most of the course?
No prior experience with specific AI platforms or editing applications is required. A basic familiarity with ChatGPT or equivalent is helpful, but the course does not assume that participants already know particular generative AI tools. Participants who already use editing software are welcome to work with their preferred tools.
Do I have to arrive with an idea, concept or short story already prepared to develop during the workshop?
We will provide a pool of story ideas and short scripts that have been selected because they are suitable for the timeframe, team structure and AI-assisted production process of the course. These will give participants a practical starting point and will help teams move quickly into making, testing and developing work.
Participants are also very welcome to bring their own ideas, concepts or short stories. These can be discussed and workshopped during the course, particularly in relation to what is achievable within the available time and what kinds of stories work well with generative AI.
Do I have to bring my own laptop and software in order to participate in the course?
We would ideally like you to bring a laptop (although spares are available) to work on the course. Most AI tools used during the course will be accessed through a browser rather than installed directly onto participant’s laptops. There may be some recommended applications for editing or organising assets, but we will confirm these in advance in the participation handout. We aim to use tools that are available on both Mac and Windows.
