What's included?
Sid Menon’s course “Low budget, high impact” proves you can produce high-quality cinematic work using little to no budget. Think smartphones, natural light, local talent, and clever hacks that can make your £0 look like £1,000,000 on screen.
This workshop is designed to equip participants with a practical “cheat sheet” of essential tips, strategies, and real-world insights aimed at keeping down production costs without compromising creative vision. It will explore the key considerations when writing and planning a short film: from concept development and script breakdowns, to location choices, cast size, and technical requirements, so that ideas remain pragmatic whilst retaining ambition.
Beyond theoretical discussion, the workshop will emphasise a problem-solving approach to filmmaking on a budget. Participants will be guided through common challenges faced during low-budget productions and learn how to anticipate, adapt, and make informed creative decisions early in the writing and planning stages.
In addition to structured discussions and shared resources, the course will feature curated examples of short films and music videos created with limited budgets and minimal resources. These case studies will help participants assess the wide range of possibilities available within smaller budgets, demonstrating how smart planning, and creative ingenuity can overcome financial limitations.
By the end of the course, participants will walk away with the knowledge, and momentum, needed to bring your short film to life, proving that there’s nothing really stopping you from making your next film!
Who is this for?
This course is ideal for filmmaking beginners, creatives on a budget, and anyone who wants to learn how to squeeze their film’s budget further.
